Al-Kitab University Professor Chairs Master’s Thesis Defense Committee at Kirkuk Technical Engineering College

Professor Dr. Samir Saadoun Mustafa Al-Jubouri, a faculty member at Al-Kitab University, chaired the master’s thesis defense committee at the Kirkuk Technical Engineering College for student Omar Najat Najm Al-Din, titled:

“Dynamic Reconfiguration of Scalable Photovoltaic Cell Arrays to Mitigate Partial Shading Effects,” held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

The thesis focused on designing an advanced system for reconfiguring solar panels using PVC architectures, aiming to reduce the impact of partial shading—one of the most significant challenges in solar energy systems—while improving extracted power and enhancing system efficiency. The study relied on simulation models using MATLAB, along with practical implementation using an Arduino microcontroller.

The research results demonstrated a notable improvement in extracted power by up to 20%, along with a reduction in the Mismatch Index compared to traditional systems, reflecting the potential of this solution as a low-cost, scalable practical option for addressing partial shading issues in real-world applications.

The defense committee consisted of:

  • Prof. Dr. Samir Saadoun Mustafa – Chair
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Najdat Nasrat – Member
  • Lect. Dr. Hussein Nazim Fadhel – Member
  • Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Ikram Siddiq – Member & Supervisor
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montasser Eidi Sharif – Member & Supervisor

The defense witnessed a distinguished academic presence, during which the scientific work was evaluated and the efforts made to address a critical issue in the field of renewable energy were commended.
