University Commitment to Academic Integrity

Al-Kitab University firmly believes that academic integrity is a fundamental pillar of its educational and research mission. The university and all its members — students, faculty members, researchers, and administrators — are committed to the highest standards of honesty, trustworthiness, and respect in all academic activities, in alignment with the regulations of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and international best practices.

Core Principles

Academic integrity at Al-Kitab University is built on six core principles:

Forms of Academic Misconduct

3.1 Plagiarism

Presenting someone else’s ideas, texts, or data as your own without proper attribution:

• Direct copying without quotation and citation.
• Paraphrasing without acknowledging the source.
• Submitting work prepared by a third party (Contract Cheating).
• Self-plagiarism: Submitting previously published work without disclosure.
• Undeclared use of generative AI in producing research texts or assignments.

3.2 Cheating in Examinations

• Using unauthorized materials or devices.
• Viewing another student’s work.
• Communication during an examination.
• Impersonating another examinee.

3.3 Falsification and Fabrication

• Fabricating or distorting research data.
• Forging signatures, certificates, or documents.
• Submitting a CV containing false information.

3.4 Unauthorized Collaboration

Collaborating on individual work that is explicitly designated as individual, or sharing answers in an individual exam.

3.5 Resource Misuse

• Disrupting or damaging library or laboratory resources.
• Unauthorized access to university databases.

Generative AI Usage Policy

The university recognizes that generative AI tools have become part of the professional environment. Therefore, their use is subject to the following rules:

• Mandatory Disclosure: Any use of an AI tool in academic work must be explicitly disclosed, including the tool name, version, and nature of contribution.
• Ultimate Responsibility: The student or researcher is fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of the submitted content, even if generated by an AI tool.
• Permitted Uses: Language correction, idea generation, summarization, translation — with disclosure.
• Prohibited Uses: Generating full research text or exam answers and presenting them as one’s own without disclosure.
• Instructor’s Discretion: Instructors may set additional rules for their courses; students must comply.

Reporting and Investigation Mechanism

• Reporting: Reports are submitted in writing to the relevant college dean’s office or via [email protected].
• Competent Committee: The dean’s office forms a committee of at least three academic faculty members.
• Investigation: The student is given the opportunity to review the report and submit a defense within seven working days.
• Decision: A decision is issued within 30 days from the date of the report, with the right to appeal to the University Council.
• Confidentiality: The privacy of all parties is maintained throughout the investigation.

Sanctions

Sanctions are applied according to the severity of the violation, based on the Student Discipline Regulations in Institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research No. (160) of 2007 as amended by Regulations No. (169) of 2018:

Level	Type of Violation	Sanction
Level 1	Minor first violation	Written warning + resubmission of academic work.
Level 2	Moderate violation	Course failure + warning recorded in the file.
Level 3	Serious violation	Suspension for one or more semesters.
Level 4	Repeated or extremely serious violation	Permanent dismissal + referral to judiciary when applicable (certificate forgery, impersonation).

Addiction and the Problem of Integrative Therapy

Al-Kitab University recognizes the health, psychological, and social risks caused by various forms of addiction, and believes in the importance of providing appropriate support and treatment for those affected by this phenomenon. The university strives to raise awareness about the dangers of addiction, provide health education programs, and promote prevention and integrated treatment approaches.

Integrative Therapy aims to treat addiction through a comprehensive approach that combines:

• Medical and psychological treatment.
• Social and family support.
• Behavioral and vocational rehabilitation.
• Ongoing education and case follow-up.

Student Rights

• The right to review the report and evidence.
• The right to submit a written defense.
• The right to appeal within 15 days of being notified of the decision.
• The right to attend a hearing upon request.

Training Resources

The university provides:

• Annual workshops for new students on academic citation and APA guidelines.
• Turnitin plagiarism detection for faculty members.
• An academic citation guide available at the Central Library.
