Department of surveying engineering
about the department
Welcome to the Department of Surveying Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Kitab University. Founded with the goal of advancing Iraq’s surveying expertise, our department is dedicated to preparing the next generation of skilled survey engineers equipped to meet the complex needs of modern infrastructure. The department offers a comprehensive four-year program that leads to a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering, focusing on specialized areas such as land surveying, photogrammetry, and remote sensing technologies.
Students in our program are immersed in both theoretical and practical training, gaining experience with the latest surveying techniques and technology. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experience with traditional and modern surveying instruments—such as Total Stations, GPS, and GIS mapping systems—students develop the technical and analytical skills essential for success in the field. Additionally, our faculty consists of experienced professionals who are committed to advancing research and fostering a learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation.
The department also recognizes the vital role survey engineers play in Iraq’s ongoing infrastructure development and urban planning efforts. Our graduates are prepared to contribute to a wide range of projects, including land management, infrastructure planning, and environmental monitoring. Situated in a region with diverse topography and dynamic development needs, our department is ideally positioned to respond to national and regional demands for expertise in engineering surveying.
