Master’s Thesis Discussion in the Department of Principles of Religion Titled: “Intellectual Immunity in Surat Al-A’raf – An Objective Study”

A master’s thesis was discussed in the College of Islamic Sciences / Department of Principles of Religion for the student Adnan Rafiq Nameq, titled “Intellectual Immunity in Surat Al-A’raf – An Objective Study,” on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in the Salahuddin Hall at the college, under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah Najm Abdullah.

Importance of the Study:

First: The methodological necessity that led the researcher to choose the Holy Quran as a methodological foundation for researching intellectual immunity. The Holy Quran serves as a reference framework and fundamental source for intellectual grounding and practical realization, being a central axis in the life of a Muslim — for the Quran is a way of life.

Second: Discussing intellectual immunity requires affirming what can be called an “intellectual immune system” to protect the nation’s thought from cultural invasion and civilizational poisoning that weakens, distorts, and invalidates it. This demands a comprehensive civilizational response across various levels within the nation. Therefore, it is a clear mistake to view the context of the Surah under study within the framework of individual intellectual immunity alone — rather, it takes into account community immunity.

About the Student:
It is worth noting that the student, Adnan Rafiq Nameq, is one of the distinguished graduates of Al-Kitab University / College of Education / Department of Education and Islamic Sciences for the year 2021–2022, where he ranked first in his cohort with an average of 88%.

Key Recommendations of the Study:

The researcher concluded with several recommendations, most notably:

  • The necessity of establishing “interactive knowledge platforms” based on deconstructing contemporary misleading discourse using the analytical tools provided by Surat Al-A’raf to uncover the mechanisms of “demonic whisperings” and the distortion of facts. This would transform the stories of the prophets with their peoples into “simulation scenarios” that train rising generations to detect logical fallacies and intellectual manipulation practiced by “elites” in the modern era through social media platforms.
  • These platforms should be supported by joint committees composed of Sharia scholarsdiscourse analysis experts, and digital sociology specialists to ensure effective intellectual confrontation in the open digital space.

Thesis Defense Committee Members:

  • Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hadi Shihab – Chair
  • Prof. Dr. Othman Fawzi Ali – Member
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Basim Hammadi – Member
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Najm Abdullah – Member & Supervisor

After an extensive discussion, the scientific committee praised the efforts made by the student in preparing his thesis and decided to grant him a “Satisfactory” grade, in recognition of the research level and its scientific importance.
