Al-Kitab University organized an academic and awareness event to mark the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, attended by the University President, Prof. Dr. Ayad Barznchy, the Scientific Assistant, Dr. Hazaa Dawood, along with college deans, faculty members, and a gathering of students.
The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, followed by the playing of the Iraqi national anthem, in an atmosphere expressing a spirit of belonging and national responsibility.
In his speech, the University President affirmed that:
“Universities are not merely institutions for education, but spaces for building awareness and promoting enlightened thought. Confronting violent extremism begins with entrenching a culture of dialogue, respecting diversity, and fostering a spirit of responsible citizenship in our students. Science is the strongest weapon against ignorance, and moderate thought is the impregnable fortress against all forms of extremism and closed-mindedness.”
He emphasized the importance of equipping students with the tools of critical thinking and expanding horizons of cooperation with community institutions, contributing to preparing a conscious generation capable of building an Iraq characterized by security and stability.
The event included a scientific lecture delivered by the Dean of the College of Media, Prof. Dr. Omar Ahmed Ramadan, in which he addressed the role of media and society in rejecting extremist thought, explaining the importance of responsible media discourse in spreading awareness and promoting community peace.
This event is part of the university’s activities to enhance its academic and societal role in supporting national efforts to combat extremism and consolidate intellectual security. The activities continue over four days, filled with seminars, lectures, and awareness workshops.
