The Continuing Education Center, in cooperation with the College of Law at Al-Kitab University, held a scientific workshop titled “The Speicher Massacre: Genocide and a Crime Against Humanity,” as part of scientific activities aimed at enhancing legal and humanitarian awareness of national issues and international crimes.
The workshop featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Hêwa Muhammed Ahmed, in which he addressed the legal and humanitarian dimensions of the Speicher Massacre. He explained its classification as genocide and a crime against humanity according to international law, and the resulting legal and ethical responsibilities, in addition to the importance of documenting crimes, prosecuting perpetrators, and ensuring they are held accountable.
The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members, researchers, and students, who enriched the discussion with their interventions and questions, emphasizing the importance of such events in entrenching a culture of justice and human rights, and commemorating crimes that targeted innocent civilians to ensure they are not repeated in the future.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers affirmed Al-Kitab University’s commitment to organizing more scientific and awareness-raising activities that contribute to serving society and enhancing awareness of contemporary legal and humanitarian issues.
