Under the patronage of Al-Kitab University and in coordination with the Ministry of Interior / Directorate of Narcotics Affairs in Kirkuk and the Community Police in Kirkuk, the activities of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Awareness Week were officially launched today. This initiative comes as part of the national efforts aimed at enhancing public awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and reducing its spread among young people.

The opening ceremony began with a welcoming address by the President of Al-Kitab University, who greeted the attendees and emphasized that the University places high priority on supporting educational and awareness-raising programs. He highlighted that combating drug abuse is a shared responsibility that requires close collaboration among educational, health, and security institutions to protect society and build a conscious generation capable of facing emerging challenges.

The scientific session also featured two specialized lectures:

  • The first lecture, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Zaher Abdulrazzaq, was titled “The Role of Health and Educational Institutions in Combating Drug Use.” He discussed the importance of institutional cooperation in guiding young people and protecting them from associated risks.
  • The second lecture, presented by Assistant Lecturer Sarah Mohammed Hamid and titled “A Generation Without Addiction… Our Shared Responsibility,” explored the concept of societal responsibility in providing protection and fostering a supportive environment free from addiction.

The program will continue throughout the week on the campus of Al-Kitab University, offering a range of activities, workshops, and awareness sessions aimed at promoting a culture of health consciousness and strengthening the University’s role as a key partner in addressing this critical issue.
