Al-Kitab University hosted the University Theater Festival with the participation of 32 public and private universities from various Iraqi governorates, in an artistic and cultural event aimed at supporting youth talents and exchanging theatrical experiences among students.
The festival was inaugurated with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, and then the Iraqi national anthem was played, amid a large attendance of university professors, students, and guests.
In a speech delivered during the opening ceremony, the President of Al-Kitab University, Prof. Dr. Iyad Barzinji, welcomed the participants and attendees, stressing that the university believes education is not confined to classrooms but encompasses all fields of creativity and knowledge, including theatrical arts, which serve as a means to express human, social, and national issues.
He added:
“Hosting this event represents an extension of the university’s mission to support creativity, enhance cultural awareness among youth, and encourage them to present meaningful artistic messages that contribute to building society.”
The festival included folkloric performances representing Iraqi cultural heritage, as well as an entertainment segment that brought joy to the audience, before the theatrical performances presented by student groups began. These performances were distinguished by their diverse themes, ranging from social and national to humanitarian issues.
It is worth noting that the University Theater Festival is one of the most important cultural events that bring together Iraqi university students, providing them with a platform to express their creative visions and ideas within a constructive competitive environment that encourages excellence and development in the performing arts.
