Under the generous patronage of His Excellency Prime Minister Engineer Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, Al-Kitab University, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Youth and the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, organized an awareness conference to combat the harms of drugs. The event was attended by members of the Provincial Council, prominent political figures, tribal leaders, and a gathering of university students.
The conference began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a moment of silence to honor the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, and the playing of the Iraqi national anthem.
The conference commenced with a welcoming speech by the University President, Professor Dr. Iyad Barzanji, in which he emphasized that this conference is a direct response to the directives of the Prime Minister’s Office, as part of the national initiative to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs. He praised the role of the Supreme Council for Youth in supporting awareness campaigns through youth teams and awareness ambassadors within Iraqi universities.
In a speech delivered by Dr. Amer Al-Jubouri, the Prime Minister’s Advisor in Kirkuk Governorate, he addressed the negative impacts of drugs on society and the need to activate the role of academic institutions in confronting this issue.
Engineer Shwan Najat from the Kirkuk Directorate of Narcotics also delivered an awareness lecture, presenting recent statistics and methods for prevention and combating this dangerous scourge.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants were honored in appreciation of their efforts in making this national awareness event a success.
