Kitab_University, in cooperation with #Kirkuk_University, organized a scientific symposium today (Saturday 6/19/2021) on the occasion of #World_No_Smoking_Quit_Day.
The President of Kitab University, Professor Dr. Ayad Barzinji, said in a speech during the opening of the symposium: The World Health Organization has set the slogan “Commitment to Quitting Smoking” in its commemoration of the World No Smoking Day, which falls on May 31 of each year, in an effort to urge those who quit this harmful habit to continue quitting. He added: It is no secret to anyone the pioneering role that universities can play in this regard, especially with the terrifying numbers of smoking victims, which according to the World Health Organization reached one person dying every four seconds, and that eight million people die annually due to direct or passive smoking, and that today we have more than a billion people around the world who use tobacco, pointing out that as far as Al-Kitab University is concerned, and based on its scientific and societal responsibility, it has adopted many important decisions in this regard, foremost of which is the complete ban on smoking in the university offices and corridors, placing warning posters and posters throughout the academic year, holding educational seminars and encouraging scientific research that monitors the dangers of smoking and its consequences on both sexes and different ages. The seminar, which was attended by the Scientific Assistant of Al-Kitab University, Professor Dr. Latif Barzinji, the Dean of the College of Arts at Kirkuk University, Professor Dr. Omar Anjah, and a number of researchers, presented scientific research and documentaries on the catastrophic health damages of smoking.
