Department of Technical Physiotherapy
about the department
The Department of Technical Physiotherapy at Al-Kitab University was inaugurated on June 28, 2022, as a transformative initiative in Iraq’s healthcare education landscape. Born from the urgent need to address the nation’s rehabilitation service gaps, our department has rapidly evolved into a center of excellence for physiotherapy education. We house cutting-edge facilities including a motion analysis lab with 3D gait tracking technology, an electrotherapy suite with the latest modalities, and Iraq’s first virtual reality rehabilitation station. Our curriculum bridges the critical divide between classroom learning and real-world application through mandatory clinical rotations at partner hospitals like Al-Kitab Teaching Hospital and Baghdad Medical City. Each year, we admit 120 carefully selected students who undergo rigorous training in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological recovery, cardiopulmonary care, and pediatric interventions.

Message
At the heart of our mission lies a steadfast commitment to revolutionizing rehabilitation care in Iraq through education that marries technological innovation with human compassion. We strive to cultivate a new generation of physiotherapy technicians who embody clinical excellence while maintaining unwavering ethical standards. Our programs are deliberately designed to meet both international benchmarks and Iraq’s unique healthcare challenges, from war-related injuries to chronic disability management. Beyond technical skills, we instill in students the cultural competency needed to serve Iraq’s diverse populations with dignity. The department actively collaborates with the Ministry of Health to develop national treatment protocols, ensuring our graduates don’t just join the workforce but actively shape the future of Iraqi rehabilitation services.
Vision
Our aspiration is to establish the Department of Technical Physiotherapy as the undisputed leader in rehabilitation education across the Middle East by 2030. We envision creating an academic ecosystem where groundbreaking research in areas like robotic therapy and war injury rehabilitation directly translates to improved patient outcomes nationwide. The department aims to be recognized as the primary source of innovative rehabilitation solutions, setting the gold standard for clinical training through strategic partnerships with global institutions like the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. Ultimately, we measure our success not by graduation rates alone, but by how our graduates elevate the quality of life for thousands of Iraqis living with disabilities each year.
