Department of Prosthetic Engineering

about the department

The Department of Prosthetic Engineering at Al-Kitab University, established in December 2024, is a pioneering academic program dedicated to advancing artificial limb technology, biomechanics, and rehabilitation engineering. This department was founded to address the growing demand for highly skilled prosthetic engineers in Iraq and the region, particularly to support war amputees, accident survivors, and individuals with congenital limb differences.

Our program integrates engineering principles, medical sciences, and advanced manufacturing to develop state-of-the-art prosthetic and orthotic devices. Students receive hands-on training in 3D printing, robotic prosthetics, neural interfaces, and biomechanical analysis, ensuring they are prepared to innovate in medical rehabilitation technology.

The department collaborates with hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and global research institutions to ensure our curriculum meets international standards while addressing local healthcare needs.

Message

To educate and train prosthetic engineers who can design, develop, and improve artificial limbs and assistive devices, enhancing mobility and quality of life for amputees. We are committed to:

  • Innovation in prosthetic technology (robotics, AI, 3D printing).

  • Clinical collaboration with doctors and rehabilitation specialists.

  • Ethical engineering that prioritizes patient well-being.

  • Community service, ensuring accessibility to prosthetic care.

Vision

To become a leading center for prosthetic engineering in the Middle East, recognized for:

  • Cutting-edge research in bionic limbs, neural-controlled prosthetics, and smart rehabilitation devices.

  • Producing world-class engineers who contribute to medical advancements.

  • Bridging the gap between engineering and healthcare in Iraq.

Goals

  1. Graduate highly skilled prosthetic engineers with expertise in biomechanics, material science, and patient-centered design.

  2. Develop affordable, high-performance prosthetic solutions tailored to Iraq’s medical and social needs.

  3. Partner with hospitals and NGOs to provide prosthetic services to amputees.

  4. Advance research in neuroprosthetics, 3D-printed limbs, and AI-driven mobility aids.

  5. Promote awareness about prosthetic technology and amputee rehabilitation in Iraq.
