The International Scientific Conference on Women, War, and Peacemaking in the Middle East
Under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Iraq, Al-Kitab University is proud to announce the International Scientific Conference on Women, War, and Peacemaking in the Middle East, scheduled to take place on October 1–2, 2019, at Al-Kitab University, Iraq.
The conference is organized in collaboration with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University (Sweden) and the Swedish-Iraqi Studies Network (SISNet).
Objectives
The conference aims to convene scholars and practitioners with a shared interest in women’s issues and the Middle East. Participants are invited to submit abstracts in Arabic or English that address the conference themes.
Abstract Submission Guidelines
- Abstracts must not exceed 500 words.
- A short biography for each author (maximum 300 words) should accompany the submission.

- Women and violence in the Middle East.
- Women in post-conflict development.
- Sexual violence against women during conflicts.
- International law and the protection of women and children during armed conflicts.
- Social and psychological impacts of armed conflicts on women.
- Women, transitional justice, and post-conflict resolution.
- Women and terrorism in the Middle East.
- Women’s representation in media during and after conflict.
- Impact of displacement and forced migration on women.
Publishing Opportunities
- Articles in English: Published in the Nidaba Journal (Lund University, Sweden) after a peer-review process. Author guidelines.
- Articles in Arabic: Published in the Al-Kitab Journal for Human Sciences (Iraq).
