Launching the second international festival of innovation, patents, and copyrights in Al-Kitab University
Under the auspices of his Excellency the minster of higher education in Iraq, Prof. Dr. Qusay Al-Suheil, the activities of the second international festival of innovation, patents, and copyrights in Al-Kitab University, organized by the college of pharmacy, have started today Saturday the 4th of May 2019 for two days in collaboration with WIPO, the international foundation for intellectual property, the Iraqi foundation of inventors and creative’s IFIA, and the international union of inventors’ associations.
The festival was launched by reciting some verse from Quran Kareem and a moment of silence for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. After that, the president of Kirkuk University made a speech in which he thanked Al-Kitab University for organizing this international festival and called for more efforts to support and encourage inventors and innovators.
Later, the representative of Al-Kitab University, Dr. Lateef S. Noori, gave a welcoming speech in which he stressed that Al-Kitab University “pioneers the private universities in Iraq to raise the level of education and support the innovation as they are the pillars of a modern advanced university”. “We provide all the available facilities for the researchers and the students which lead to distinguished research and innovations that put our university in a recognized position among the eminent universities locally and internationally”, he said. He added “Al-Kitab University administration gives a special attention for the intellectual property and copyright to keep the rights of researchers and innovators for a better advancement and this is its second international activity within three months which approves the high feeling of responsibility towards the creative researchers and innovators to protect the patents according to the law of Iraq”.
Dr. Nihad Abdul-Wahab, the dean of the College of Pharmacy, also gave a speech in which she emphasized the importance of protecting innovations and copyrights as a part of the vision of the Pharmacy College and the university and along with the directions of the ministry of higher education of Iraq. All those have become an associated merit for Al-Kitab University among the academic medium locally and internationally. The Universty misses no chance to support and back up any activity of such a type.
Then the chairman of the Iraqi innovators association, Mrs. Teresa, gave a word of thank to Al-Kitab University in this occasion and assured that the one of the association’s priorities is to achieve partnership with the prestigious universities among which is Al-Kitab University and to reach for enactments and laws that protect the intellectual property. She added that Al-Kitab University did not wait a long time to take practical steps towards supporting and activating that project and maintaining it.
Finally, a documentary was presented entitled ” Al-Kitab University …… the dream which has become true” and a folklore team of students from the department of pharmacy presented traditional dances that show the unity of Iraqi people. Also another group of pharmacy students presented a short video film about their creative work.
The festival included a fair about innovations and patents from inside and outside Iraq like America, Iran, Bosnia and Hersik. Also many seminars and discussions for the participated researches were held on the margin of the festival in addition to the creativity stage activities for students.
The College of Pharmacy of Al-Kitab University and the association of Innovators of Iraq signed an agreement during the period of the festival. It is worth mentioning that many important academic figures from different universities and colleges attended the opening of the festival.
